Resurrection

2023

Wooden Pallets, concrete blocks, paper, ink, acrylic

Dredging through the journey of recovery from addiction, this piece builds on my previous work “On Being a Battleground and a Sanctuary”. The work focuses on the healing body, symbolized by a Blues-inspired color palette and documents from inpatient treatment.

Collaging creates a tactile representation of my process to slow down time. Each cataloged piece of paper serves as a reminder of the ongoing work of recovery, encapsulating both deterioration and potential.

Drawing from the principles of recovery dharma, addiction mirrors a life already lived, marked by a perpetual state of inadequacy and dissatisfaction. The artwork urges us to examine these cycles. Like the Blues, addiction, sobriety and discovery are all cyclical, biting from the past to create the present and future.
